BACKGROUND ART JOKES

Like i promised last time, we will stay in the theme of Bojack Horseman series. I already mentioned that this series hide many easter eggs, but i decided to focus only on the art references. Some of the art pieces refers to the personalities of characters or current problems in episodes.

The first major painting we’re introduced to is actually in the opening credits, the painting of the horseshoes above his bed, which refers to the works of Andy Warhol. I think it fits very well, because he was criticizing the culture of the mass media what is the main topic of this series.

A series of Keith Haring paintings at Bojack's apartment. In this scene he found out that his best friends is gay. Keith Haring was one of the most prolific artists in the 80s, his works concerned homosexuality and the politics around it.

David Hockney "Portrait of an Artist", this painting can be seen pretty often, right behind Bojack's desk. He became known for the paintings featuring swimming pools. This piece was supposed to evoke feelings like depression, no possibility to escape, drowning in sorrows and detachment. This nicely translates to Bojack's life problems and dilemmas.

At Herb's office are hung works of Jean- Michel Basquiat, he was also prominent in the 80s, it makes the retrospections and time references more polished.

Like Bojack’s home, the paintings drawn above Sarah Lynn’s bed and in her living room reflect her personality. It depicts the tragic death of Ophelia in Shakespeare’s Hamlet (John Everett Millais) just like her Sara Lynn is a victim of her own self-destructive nature.

I hope guys you like it, which is yours favourite reconstruction? Or maybe you remember other easter eggs from Bojack's series?

Have a nice day!
