THE BIRTH OF THE IMPRESSIONISM

"Impression, sunrise"  by Claude Monet is the first painting in the trend of the impressionism.

It represents the harbor bay in the French city Le Hevre. Monet showed a harbor covered in morning fog with a slightly  rising sun. In the foreground you can see the dark silhouettes of two fishing boats that flow out for the morning catch. In the first boats you can see people sitting in. In the distance, on the other hand, masts of moored ships and harbor cranes grew out against the sky. The most eye-catching point in the picture is the orange ball of the sun casting its reflection on the water. In the water are reflected also ships in the port and reflections of the sun rays arranged in a zigzag along a straight line, which also act as a vertical axis of the image composition.

The main feature of this trend is the presentation of a fleeting moment, capturing the landscape at a special moment. The impressionists selected the nature as the main theme of their work, they had to create outdoors to "catch" the perfect natural lighting.

The technique of fuzzy and merging color patches gave the effect of an unusual play of lights and colors. The color limit gives a unique and the picture appears to change colors every time you look at it. The most common impressionists were Monet,  Degas, Renoir and Pissarro.

When I was younger I hated the trend of impressionism, but nowadays I find it quite soothing and relaxing. If I were a millionaire I'd definitely buy one of theirs paintings for my bedroom.

What's your opinion?
